My Thoughts:
This was a fun and delightful read. I really enjoyed getting to know Penny and John. I loved how she's got so much grit. Both were fun to read. I also loved catching up with the others from the previous books. I think both Utah and Adam need their own stories. 

This is a book that is a quick to read. It's light-hearted. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book this author has in store.

My Thoughts:

This was good. It didn't have me giggling like some of her others. And I didn't quite connect with the characters the way that I did in some of her previous books, but I still enjoyed it. It was a pretty quick read overall. 

I'm looking forward to the second one.

My Thoughts:
This series has been fun to read. I knew after the first book that the final one would be Cole and Melanie's story. It's been fun to watch these characters develop over the three books.

I loved both Cole and Melanie. I loved how they were both strong willed yet clueless when it came to each other. I also loved their interactions with the others in the book.

Will having her at the ranch put her life in danger?

It was a delight to return to the Cimarron Ranch. I saw the sparks between Justin and Angie in the first book, and eagerly devoured their story. While the problems at the ranch didn't get completely resolved in this book, there have been some that were resolved. I can't wait for the third book to really wrap up the ends.

The Husband Maneuver by Karen Witemeyer
About the story: Marietta Hawkins has loved Daniel Barrett for years. She loves both the man and the dime novel hero. When she hears that he may be leaving her father's ranch, she takes matters into her own hands.

My thoughts: This novella is a compliment to Karen's Worthy Pursuit. I really enjoyed getting to see Daniel again. I'd have loved for his story to be a full length novel, but this novella was still a sweet read. Rating - 4 stars

Her Dearly Unintended by Regina Jennings - When Josiah Huckabee assists Katie Ellen with ensuring that her cows are safely across the river, he doesn't expect to be stranded with her! When a stranger arrives, Josiah and Katie Ellen must pretend to be newlyweds to ensure Katie Ellen's safety. But can this pretend match become something real and lasting?

My thoughts: Having not read any books in her Ozark series, I had no idea this was connected to those books. It really does stand alone. I enjoyed this one. It's funny and sweet at the same time. Rating - 4 stars

Runaway Bride by Mary Connealy - Big John Conway has been hired by Audra Kincaid to escort her younger sister to the family's ranch in Colorado in order for her to escape an arranged marriage. When word gets out that Carrie is missing and has been spotted in Big John's company, he has no choice but to divert to Broken Wheel where his Regulator friends can help him stop this latest bit of trouble in Texas. The only thing he didn't expect is to fall for woman he's supposed to be rescuing.

My thoughts: I think that this one was probably my favorite one. I'd always felt that of all of the Regulators, Big John needed his own happy ending. I loved seeing him with his friends and with Carrie. Rating - 4.5 stars

Engaging the Competition by Melissa Jagears - Harrison and Charlotte - known as Charlie - have always been competitors. When his glasses are broken while he's checking on her safety during a strong spring storm, Charlie feels that she has no choice but to help him with his teaching. While the forced togetherness may be fine for most people, Charlie's engaged - and not to Harrison! Will these two manage to put their competitive natures behind and possibly discover love in the process?

My thoughts: This one was fun to read. I loved how Harrison kept putting Charlie's well being ahead of his own desires and that she was determined to save her family farm so that her mother could happily live where the memories of her father were the strongest. Rating - 4 stars

Overall thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, though it did take me several days to get through. For fans of these authors, you will enjoy this book. For someone who isn't sure about these authors, then I recommend trying it. The stories are all entertaining.

Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books I read in 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly theme hosted by the Broke & the Bookish.

This week's theme is the top ten books I've read in 2015. I could do a variety of lists, but I know myself well enough to know that I can't just pick 10! So here's what I came up with.

1. The Butterfly and the Violin by Kristy Cambron - This is by far my favorite book of the year. It enthralled me.

2. Accept This Dandelion by Brooke Williams - This was so much fun to read. I giggled my way through it.

3. Dandelion Field by Kathryn Springer - The story in this one kept me turning the pages. The way that there were two stories really being told at the same time.

4. How to Catch a Prince by Rachel Hauck - My favorite of the Royal Wedding Series. I loved this one.

5. From the Start by Melissa Tagg - Her books have captivated me from the first, and this one wasn't any exception.

6. Hearts Made Whole by Jody Hedlund - I loved Ryan in this book. He gave a whole new meaning to the "wounded" hero.

7. Not By Sight by Kate Breslin - I loved her debut last year. This one was a great second novel.

8. The Gifting Series by K. E. Ganshert - I read all three of these in one weekend I believe.

9. Fire and Ice by Mary Connealy - I'd been wanting Bailey's story since book 1. Was so glad to get it in this one.

10. Through Waters Deep by Sarah Sundin - I love the cover on this book. I love her writing.

11. Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar - It's been a while since I read one of his books. This one was a surprise delight.

12. One More Wish by Robin Jones Gunn - Robin's books are like old friends. Even when it's a new book. They are truly a breath of fresh air.

13. Mistress of Tall Acre by Laura Frantz - Laura's books make me long to be in the period of history. They truly are amazing.

14. The Wedding Chapel by Rachel Hauck - If I wasn't already a fan of Rachel's, then this book would have made me one. It's that good.

15. The Isle of Hope by Julie Lessman - Julie's first contemporary novel. There are enough fun characters in it to make me not sad that she's writing contemporary instead of historical. Though I still love her historicals.

16. Wings of Glory Series by Sarah Sundin - These have been on my list for a while. I'm so glad that I got to them, finally. Book 3 is my favorite.

17. Noble Masquerade by Kristi Ann Hunter - I kept hearing about this book. I was glad to finally read it.

18. The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan - I'd forgotten how funny his books are until I started this one. I love his sense of humor.

19. Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George - I love fairytale retellings. This one retells the Twelve Dancing Princesses.

20. Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey - I kept waiting for Reef's story. I was not disappointed in it at all.

Now for some that are mostly rereads:

21. Short Straw Bride & Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer - These are my two favorites by Karen.

22. Juliet by Anne Fortier - I loved this one from the first time that I read it. This time through, I was buddy reading it, and I loved it even more.

23. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling - One of my friends is reading this series for the first time, and I said I'd buddy with her on these. No matter how many times I read them, Harry Potter never gets old.

Fire & Ice - A Review

Both of these two don't speak for months due to the harsh winter. For Bailey, the long winter is longer than ever and she's the loneliest she's ever been with both sisters married and moved away. When the first thaws of spring arrive, the melting snow brings Gage to her doorstep. He's desperate. Sure he wants the land, but he really needs a wife and thinks Bailey would be perfect. In a moment of desperation, she agrees to his proposal. But these newlyweds soon discover that things aren't going to be all roses. Someone still is set on harming Bailey, and Gage realizes he will do anything to protect the woman he's coming to love. Can these two strong people manage to catch the culprit and fall in love in the process?

This book was a delight to read. I certainly recommend  reading this series in order as there are hints of Gage and Bailey throughout. Their story though, was positively delightful.

The chemistry between the two is very strong. I loved how determined Gage was to get to his land. And Bailey was equally determined not to let him. Well at least to an extent. And when they did finally get married, I loved how understanding Gage was of Bailey's fears.

I really think that this book was the best in the series and my personal favorite of the series.

Now & Forever - A Review

Matthew Tucker is on his way back up to his cabin in the mountains when he is attacked by a mama grizzly. In order to survive, he jumps off a cliff into a raging river, unintentionally sweeping Shannon Wilde along with him. Fighting through rapids, waterfalls, and caves bonds the pair together in a way that Tucker certainly didn't expect. Especially when they are found five days after having gone missing and Shannon's reputation compromised. The mountain man finds himself married hastily to a young woman with a homestead, a flock of sheep, and more relatives than he cares to have. Forced to recover from his injuries at Shannon's cabin, Tucker soon realizes that someone wants to drive Shannon and her sisters off their land. Yet the culprit didn't count on Shannon having an experienced tracker as her husband. And Tucker gets mad when he is underestimated about those he cares about especially when he's starting to fall in love with his new wife.

I'm really enjoying this series. I love the humor in these  books. And the circumstances that are causing the sisters to cast off their masquerading as men and find love.

Shannon was my favorite in the first book and I was delighted to read her story in this one. Especially learning of what she did during the war. I also enjoyed seeing sparks starting to fly between Bailey and Gage. I know their story is next and I'm excited about it.

Tucker was interesting. I actually found him rather charming really. I wasn't expecting the gruff mountain man to have a soft spot for Shannon's sheep, but he did. And his horse is pretty awesome!

Still the way Tucker and Shannon have yet to figure out to talk to each other is rather annoying. I kept wanting to shake them and force them to talk to each other.

Tried & True - A Review

Kylie Wilde fought for the Union disguised as a man. She, along with her older sisters, still dress as men in the wild west in order to claim their years of service as an exemption for homesteading. However, she'd much rather dress in skirts and have her hair long. When land agent Aaron Masterson arrives on her claim, he soon discovers that she is in fact a woman. In good conscience, Aaron can't allow for Kylie to live as a man just to claim the exemption. Yet someone wants Kylie's land, whether she is dressed as a man or as a woman. Aaron soon discovers that he will do anything in his power to keep Kylie safe. But will it be enough?

I've long enjoyed Mary Connealy's books. Each one is filled with humor and fun. This one was no different. I loved some of the situations Kylie finds herself in. She falls off a roof into the arms of Aaron. She finds herself put in jail. And others.

Kylie was just fun to read about. I could tell that she loves her family and they her. It'll be fun to read Shannon's story next and see how Matt Tucker and she go together. My prediction for book 3 is that Bailey will find her match in Gage Coulter. But of course, I could be wrong.

Still with this book, the reader is introduced to another fun cast of characters that, thankfully, will be carried over into books 2 and 3.

One of the things that I love the best about Connealy's books is that they are light-hearted. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to read them. And I can truly just sit back and enjoy it. This was the perfect book to read at work on breaks - I didn't start crying like I do with some, and it made me laugh.

Now if only next summer would get here so I can read Shannon's story!

Spitfire Sweetheart - Mary Connealy
Maizy Place is a tomboy to the extreme. When she causes an accident that seriously injures neighbor Rylan Carstens, she decides that the only way she can make amends is become his caregiver. Neither expects to fall in love.
My thoughts - This was by far my favorite of the collection. I loved the dynamics between Maizy & Rylan. I thought that they were both great. Rating - 4.5 stars.

Love Letter to the Editor - Robin Lee Hatcher
Molly Everton is outspoken and hoping her father will give her the editor's position. Needless to say, she's shocked when the position is given to newcomer Jack Ludgrove. Molly then tries everything in her power to get him to leave town. Jack's not intimated. In fact, he likes the spitfire personality she tries so hard to hide. Before they know it, they are falling in love.

My thoughts - This one was really slow moving for me. I liked the characters, but I thought that the plot really just plodded along. Still it was cute. Rating 3 stars.

A Cowboy for Katie - Debra Clopton
Katie Pearl is afraid. She lost her father and her home in a recent tornado and she's trying to survive on her own. The townspeople think she's crazy. When drifter Treb Rayburn arrives in town, she hires him to help her build her house. She doesn't expect that this drifter could teach her a couple of lessons along the way.

My thoughts - I've read a lot of Debra Clopton's books before and have always really enjoyed them. They make me laugh. This one, I didn't connect with. It had a way more serious tone than I've come to expect from a Debra Clopton book. I think that this one was probably my least favorite of the four novellas. I easily found myself putting it down and not picking it back up. Rating 2 stars.

Courting Trouble - Margaret Brownley
Grace Davenport is either a killer or just very unlucky. When her third husband is found dead, she is arrested. Her young son hires attorney Brock Daniels to help her. Brock isn't interested in the case until he meets the beautiful young woman. Then he sets out to prove her innocence. But along the way, will these two lonely hearts find love?

My thoughts - I enjoyed this one. Not as much as the Mary Connealy one, but I did enjoy this one. I thought that Grace's son was absolutely precious! I loved how Grace and Brock came to fall in love. Rating 4 stars

Overall thoughts - I loved how these four novellas were tied together in the prologue and the epilogue with the pastors telling the stories of these unlikely couples. While this collection was not my favorite of these authors, I enjoyed it.

His father arrives in town with Vince's mother and a sister he never knew he had. Suddenly Vince has more than he can handle. A sister who is falling for one of his best friends. A mother who needs constant supervision. A criminal to track. And then there's Tina. As almost the only single people left in town, they end up being stuck together more often than not. Will Vince and Tina figure out the benefits of being stuck together?

Some books open with a pretty description of a scenic place. Others open with dynamic dialogue. Not this one. This is the first one I've read that opens with a mud fight. A down and out fist flying, mud throwing, mud fight. And that set the tone for the rest of the book.

I really do think that this one is my favorite of the series. I loved the interactions between Tina and Vince. I also loved catching up with the rest of the Regulators.

Fired Up - A Review

Dare Riker moved to the small Texas town to help friend Luke Stone reclaim his family's ranch. Dare insists that he's not a doctor, but he's the closest thing to a doctor that is around. When he first met Glynna Greer, he'd been called out to the ranch where he discovered that her now late husband had beat her. Glynna wants a new life for herself and her two children. She'd come to Texas hoping to start over as a mail-order bride. She didn't expect that the man she'd married, Flint Greer, to be abusive or to be a scoundrel in general. When she becomes a widow again, Dare and his friends pack her and the children up and move them to town. Glynna insists that she's able to stand on her own two feet and opens a cafe. Sure business may be booming because every man in town wants to catch a glimpse of her beautiful face. But her lack of cooking skills also helps grow Dare's medical practice. As Dare tries to protect her from the person intent on harming him and anyone who is close to him, he finds himself falling for the beautiful widow. Will she feel the same?

I enjoyed this book much more than the first book, Swept Away. I liked Dare when I met him in the first book and seeing him in this one, I couldn't help but laugh. His insistence that he's not a doctor was hilarious. He's determined to be a rancher not a doctor, yet he is constantly being drawn to the hurt and the suffering.

For some reason, and I'm not sure why exactly, I enjoyed this book way more than the first. If I could change the star rating for the first book, I would. But I won't do that to the author.

Anyway, the characters in this book are much more lively and entertaining than in the first one. They're more developed and even though the reader only sees glimpses of Luke & Ruthy, they also have more depth to them. I'm hoping that the next book picks up with either Jonas or Vince.

He specifically stated that widows with children should not apply. What will Clay do when Luvena takes an add out of her own?

Winter Wedding Bells - Mary Connealy - David Laramie wants a woman who will care for his children when he dies. But no young woman with dreams of her own would even consider his ad. Then Megan shows up. Seems that David's edited letter made no mention of him dying.

My thoughts

I have read books by each of these authors before. So when I saw that they were writing a novella book together, I knew I had to add it to my to-read list.

I wasn't disappointed in the book. Each author brought her own style to the book, and each story had characters that were endearing. I laughed my way through one of the stories, and sighed happily after reading others. This is a very enjoyable read. I'd have to say that my favorite story was Winter Wedding Bells mainly because I just adored Megan. I think that this book would be great for a beach, a pool side, a family vacation, or anything else going on in the summer.

Swept Away - A Review

Luke Stone has returned to Texas after the Civil War to reclaim his family's ranch that was stolen from his father. Ruthy McNeil became separated from her wagon train at a river crossing and isn't too upset to be on her own. As Luke draws Ruthy into his quest for justice, she starts to fall for the handsome cowboy. Together with Luke's friends, the pair must figure out a way to reclaim his ranch. But will the cost be too high?

This book is connected, slightly, to the Kincaid Brides series. The main character is the brother of Callie Kincaid. This book stands on its own and the Kincaid Brides series does not have to be read to fully enjoy this one. While it is full of action and some humorous moments, I found I didn't connect to the main characters of Ruthy and Luke like I did with some of the author's previous couples. I absolutely loved Luke's Regulator friends. I think my favorite was Dare Riker, and I look forward to reading his story soon.

It's not my favorite of Mary Connealy's books, but it was still good. Fans of hers will enjoy this quick read.
