Nurse Lauren Barclay returned to Houston to watch over her troubled sister. Only now she has to work with the brooding physician's assistant and single parent Eli Landry. Lauren has painful memories of Eli. Eli is used to being in strained relationships. After all, his relationship with his father is very strained. Yet when a storm hits Houston leaving them both stranded, they will have to put aside their differences to work together. Will they mend their relationship as well?

I've read a few of Candace Calvert's books in the past and while slow moving, I did enjoy them. This one fit the slow moving part for sure. While it's not a favorite of mine, I didn't dislike it either. I'm really more blah on the book.

I really like how the author develops the relationships and the depth of the main characters. Both Lauren and Eli were hurting and they had to figure out how to overcome their past. I also loved some of the minor characters like Eli's daughter and her dog. Still, this was a book I will probably not reread as it didn't really hold my attention. I did find myself distracted from it several times while reading it. Especially when I got a shipment of books to review in the mail! But, I think that others may enjoy this one more than me.

I rented this book from the library to read as part of Tyndale's Summer Reading Program. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Recommended to fans of women's fiction, medical stories, Candace Calvert
